Research Consultation

Research Consultation

Faculty members and academic units learn discipline specific research techniques, but there are times when something else is needed. My training and experience lie in survey research, as well as text-based analysis from interviews, focus groups, and written work.

Conducting research is a complex task. There are a broad variety of decision points, including:

  • Determining the best way to obtain the relevant information.
  • Determining who can or should participate in research, how many participants are needed,  and how to find them.
  • Determining what questions to ask in order to elicit the desired information.
  • Collecting, organizing, and managing the information.
  • Determining the best way to analyze the information.

I can help you work through each of these steps to develop and implement your research plan, teaching you what you need to know in order to make effective, informed decisions.

I’ll also do my best to make sure you are aware of the relevant ethical principles regarding researcher conduct. Research that involves collecting data from live human subjects requires oversight from your university’s Institutional Review Board.
